Spring is many people’s favorite time to ski, longer days, warmer temps and softer snow! You can get a big storm like the 8 inches we got a couple days ago and be skiing awesome powder, or you can have a beautiful sunny day like today and be skiing soft bumps in a light ski shell. You really can have it all, but you want to be on the right ski for the conditions, this is why we at Venture Sports let you switch out your rental skis as much as you want. This way you are sure to be on the right ski for the conditions.
We know many of you don’t have the time to do your homework and demo skis throughout the season so we have prepared a list of our favorite rental skis for different conditions. Feel free to ask any questions you have at the shop but this should get you pointed in the right direction.
The Blizzard Bonafide
The Bonafide gets a major revamp for 2016, but hasn’t lost any ground to the competition. Built with a new Carbon Flipcore, a rocker-camber-rocker profile, and two sheets of metal for spring in every turn. Look around and you will see all-mountain skiers who want a single ski they can depend on in every condition keep coming back to the Bonafide. There is a reason this ski won awards from Powder, Ski Magazine, Skiing Magazine, Freeskier Magazine, On The Snow and more!
The Salomon Q85
The Salomon Q85 is a soft and playful ski that is perfect for pushing around the spring slush piles while bashing your favorite bumps. With their increased waist width and gentle Utility Rocker profile these skis are just what you need to let venture into all mountain terrain while still retaining a light and versatile platform on the groomers. With a full Wood Core this ski has a very lively feel that can make medium to long radius turns at a all speeds with a stable ride that will keep you on top of the ski and out of the back seat.
The Rossignol Experience 88
The Experience 88 is built with a traditional camber through 70% of the ski to retain the power, energy, and edge grip for confident on-trail performance. The tip and tail rocker give the ski great maneuverability with Rossignol’s Extended Sidecut, allowing edges to engage more as edge angles increase. If you are looking for a quick and versatile ski that is stable at high speed the Experience 88 is it!
The Armada TST
Great for those big march storms! The TST with its Comp Base, power, stability, and float are all seamlessly integrated into a high performance ripping machine. The TST is built using Armada’s Hybrid Ultralight wood core to save weight. The TST is built with a good amount of traditional camber underfoot and no tail rocker. This tip rocker floats over powder and makes turn initiation a snap, while the flatter tail and traditional camber provides a solid turn finish.
Venture Sports Staff Member and Vail regular Morgan Russells’ personal pick for a great spring ski is the K2 Pinnacle 95. Morgan says: “The Pinnacle might be the most versatile ski available today, offering a soft, playful feel, while maintaining stability at higher speeds. The Pinnacle is wide at the tip, with plenty of rocker, so it will keep you floating through the spring powder. It is also quick and nimble, and rips the groomers like nobody’s business. The K2 Pinnacle offers something for everyone and is truly a perfect spring ski!”
