Tell us about when you first learned to ski.
I was four years old. We went on a trip with some family friends to a local ski hill all of 700 feet tall near Duluth, MN, on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Freezing cold. Absolutely frigid. Us kids were dropped off at ski school day care while the adults explored the mountain. For me, that meant endless laps on the bunny hill, so long as I could catch that metal handle on the Rope-Tow (no magic carpet for this kid), and all the hot chocolate that I could drink. By the time our parents came to pick us up, we didn’t want to leave! From the moment I first started sliding completely out of control down that slippery slope, I was hooked. Been chasing that feeling ever since.
How did you end up in the valley?
My parents actually met on a ski vacation to Vail once upon a time, so when we would take family ski trips out West, this place was always a favorite destination. After college, I was working in corporate communications when I got a call from an old roommate. They had a spot they needed to fill at their place in Vail. He already had a job lined up for me where I would get to ski. Every day. I packed up my life and knew I’d made the right decision when I rolled into in the middle of a snowstorm – in October.
